As an Engineer, Operational Development & Readiness, you will play a critical role in transitioning major transit projects from development and construction into full operations, with a primary focus on the Calgary Green Line. Reporting to the Manager of Transit Interface and Operational Readiness, you will ensure that systems, processes, and personnel are fully prepared for the seamless integration of infrastructure, rolling stock, and systems into Calgary Transit’s operations. Primary duties include: Lead operational readiness activities, ensuring tasks are delivered on time and within budget. Develop operational requirements and processes to support the smooth transition of new LRT infrastructure into service. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, providing coordination, communication, leadership, and conflict resolution. Participate in the strategic planning of assigned projects, including defining the scope, creating business cases/justifications, work plans, determining objectives and measurements, budget, resources, interested parties, and setting up the project schedule. Align Green Line systems and infrastructure with Calgary Transit’s operational processes. Maintain alignment and manage relationships with consultants, contractors, and internal City partners. Oversee project processes including safety, quality, environmental compliance, design, construction, inspection, and contract administration. Identify and manage technical risks related to ongoing transit operations. Provide technical guidance during design and construction phases. Provide on-site support during construction as needed. Support training programs for operators, maintenance staff, and infrastructure maintainers. Assist in transitioning asset documentation and maintenance records to Calgary Transit’s management systems. Collaborate on Owner Supplied Scopes (OSS) coordination for Green Line facilities. Address warranty and deficiency claims for infrastructure and rolling stock. Qualifications A degree in Engineering and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Experience in rail transit systems, infrastructure integration, or large-scale transportation projects, along with large scale transportation project experience (including experience with works and agreements between municipalities, contractors and consultants) is essential. Knowledge of North American rail transit engineering design standards and best practices, as well as a strong understanding of operational readiness and asset integration. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered to be an asset. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel. Ability to navigate complex technical environments and drive alignment across diverse teams. Excellent communication, project management, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with internal/external partners. Strong leadership and organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively influence others and resolve client, project, and technical issues.
